The Co‑operative Governance Expert Reference Panel, led and facilitated by Co‑operatives UK, is looking for a new panel member.

The Panel, which earlier this year outlined its focus areas of work for 2021, has opened applications as Nick Money, one of the Panel's founding members, steps down from his role.

Applications are welcome from people with recent expert experience in leadership and innovation in governance – with a specific focus on financial co-operatives and credit unions.

Nick Money, our outgoing expert on credit unions, said: "The Panel is an important and unique resource for the co-operative movement, which includes broad and deep experience of governance across co-op sectors."

"It would be valuable to include expertise from the credit union movement or other financial co-ops to reflect their regulatory and other distinctive features in the Panel’s discussions and outputs. I would strongly encourage anyone with a specialism in the governance of credit unions to apply."

Panel Chair, Angela Lomax, said: "This is an interesting time to join the Panel as we consider changes in governance practice to respond to external challenges and to support our aspiration to drive excellent standards. We look forward to receiving your application."

About the Co‑operative Governance Expert Reference Panel

The Panel enables Co‑operatives UK members to shape areas of strategic priority for the UK co‑operative movement in the field of governance.

The Panel is the custodian of the governance agenda for co-operatives in the UK, and works to set governance standards for co‑operatives, encouraging innovation, active challenge and debate.

The Panel, made up of individuals with a proven track record in governance and/or co‑operative and mutual working practice, is searching for a new member that can bring and share knowledge and experience of governance in all its forms, and who has experience of either working on or with financial co‑operatives, or credit unions. Members of the Panel should be able to challenge the existing and the traditional so that it can embrace and lead innovation and provoke debate and change.

The Panel meets four times a year, mostly virtually. Read more about the Co‑operative Governance Expert Reference Panel's work.

If you would like to discuss the Panel and what we’re looking for, or you would like to apply for the vacant place, please contact [email protected] who will be happy to help.

The deadline for applications is midnight, Wednesday 30 June.
