Description:

BASC (The British Association for Shooting and Conservation) works to

*To promote and protect sporting shooting and advocate the benefits it brings to the natural environment throughout the United Kingdom, Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
*To represent members’ interests by providing an effective and unified voice for sustainable shooting sports and individual services.
*To act for the benefit of the community through education, the promotion of scientific research, best practice in: firearms licensing, habitat conservation and wildlife and game management.
*To promote the benefits of game as food.

The organisation is run by a democratically elected council of members. The council is charged with overseeing the management of the affairs of a growing, multi million-pound turnover organisation, which has very public responsibilities. In practice, the Council, as a body, delegates day-to-day running of the Association to the chief executive. This does not, however, detract from the Council's overall responsibility. There are currently 155,000 members and that number is growing every year.
