2025 is the UN International Year of Co-operatives and this is a once-in-a-decade platform to show the UK public and policymakers that co-operatives are central to building a fairer economy and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

How do we compile the report?

The Co-operative and Democratic Economy report is compiled by Co-operatives UK on behalf of the UK co-operative movement. The report analyses data from thousands of co-op businesses across the UK. In 2023, we broadened out the report for the first time to include mutuals. The 2024 tracks trends and also sets the baseline for the Labour Party's manifesto commitment to double the size of the co-operative and mutual economy.
