Executive Masterclass Programme for Leading Co-operatives
An in-depth, expert forum to empower co‑operative business leaders with the knowledge and knowhow to realise big ambitions.

The role of a co-operative board can differ significantly from that of a standard corporate board due to the unique structure, values, and goals of co-operatives. While both types of boards are responsible for governance and oversight, their priorities, decision-making processes, and relationships with stakeholders are distinct.
In co-operatives, members aren’t just there to maximise personal wealth, in fact, in most large co-ops members don’t profit much at all. The board is the voice of the members and the custodian of the co-operative securing the business for future generations of members.
In this Masterclass you will understand the composition of your board and how its role may impact dynamics and priorities. You'll discuss what a high performing board focuses its time on and how you can have a key role in ensuring the board is effective.
Key outcomes:
- Understand why co-operative boards often have a unique approach to their composition and how they reflect the voice of the membership
- Gain clarity on the board's core role and its links to strategic planning
- Learn techniques to navigate boardroom dynamics and get the most value from your interactions with the board

This Masterclass will open with an overview on the sectors that co-operatives operate in – beyond co-operative retail. We will then hear from an expert storyteller, Steve Rawling, who will showcase the power of storytelling – to better our co-operative narratives, and to help strengthen the the wider movement.

- Learn the principles of powerful storytelling from expert practitioners
