Watford Community Housing is the fourth Community Gateway Association in the UK, a co-operative model developed by the Confederation of Co-operative Housing, Co-operativesUK and the Chartered Institute of Housing to enable tenants to gradually take more control of their communities - of the decisions about their homes and their neighbourhoods.This co-operative model has two elements: The Community Gateway Process and The Community Gateway Association The Community Gateway Process is designed to cement lasting community involvement and ownership by creating more opportunities for all residents to take charge of their own destinies. The Community Gateway Association is developing a community empowerment strategy spelling out how tenants and leaseholders can increase their involvement in decision-making and management. The starting point for the Community Gateway Model is that the future of people's homes must be shaped by the people themselves. Achieving local solutions to local issues
