SEASALT Housing Co-operative

We set up S.E.A.S.A.L.T Housing Co-operative (South EAst Students Autonomously Living Together) in Spring 2018 as a group of Sussex students. We create affordable, high quality, fit for purpose housing specifically to meet the needs of students. As a housing co-operative, property is owned and managed by its residents, putting an end to unresponsive landlords, poor quality housing and spiralling rents.
Student Housing Co-operatives have been popular in the US since the 1930s as a means of empowering students. We're proud to be the first ever housing co-operative for students in Brighton & Hove.
We create affordable housing and manage our own accommodation needs. This helps bring an end to rogue landlords pocketing rent while paying no attention to maintenance needs. A great win for students.
