Description:

Zion Housing Co-op bought the old Nutclough Tavern in Hebden Bridge in 2002. A previously grim mill village in a deep dark valley, Hebden is now known as the 'Glastonbury of the North' and was recently voted '4th funkiest town in the world' by a national newspaper (yikes, is that the death-knell?). 9 people and 3 cats usually reside at the Nutclough. We have a large garden (very rare in Hebden) which backs onto woods. We grow a few veggies and herbs plus plenty of weeds and slugs. Over the 4 years of it's existence the residents and their interests have changed somewhat. We've always had a creative element with a variety of artists and performance show-offs entertaining the neighbourhood as they pass through. Some of us are involved in Treesponsibility, there's recently been a theme of working with kids, a bit of protesting against polluters, and in the last couple of years we've been setting up Weirdigans, an organic, solar-powered travelling café and fledgling workers' co-op.
