North Hampshire Urgent Care (NHUC) provides urgent medical care to the patient populations of GPs working in North Hampshire, Surrey Heath and part of East Berkshire (Sandhurst and Owlsmoor). The service is for people who are, or believe themselves to be, acutely ill or have serious concerns about their health, which cannot wait until their surgery reopens. NHUC was formed in October 2006 as a result of a merger between Frimley Primary Care Service based at Frimley Park Hospital, and Hantsdoc based at North Hampshire Hospital in Basingstoke. Both organisations were formerly GP co-operatives until the responsibility for providing out-of-hours cover transferred from GPs to Primary Care Trusts (PCTs). The majority of local GPs still support and work for the service.
