Hamwic Housing Co-operative

A housing co-operative is owned and managed by its members. All members bear equal responsibility for the successful running of the co-operative, to ensure the rules are upheld, the properties are maintained and the co-operative remains financially stable.

As the co-operative is a non-profit organisation the benefits of becoming a member include affordable rent and having a say in your own housing. It offers members an opportunity to gain access to high quality housing at low cost, in exchange for member's time, effort and expertise to run the everyday business of the co-op. All members are required to attend at least 6 General Meetings every year (there are 12 in total) and to be actively involved in a sub-group which usually meet once a month. Missing 3 consecutive General Meetings in a row without a dispensation will result in loss of membership.
