Description:

Built sometime between 1870 and 1885 The Fox & Hounds had operated as a Beer House or Public House ever since. In April 2012 the then tenants claimed they couldn’t run a profitable business there any more due to lack of interest and the present financial climate. Many local residents disputed this claim and successfully opposed a planning application to build houses on the site. Please remember that local village country pubs are a British Heritage and our first aim was to save the building.

The Co-operative was formed and the plan was to buy the freehold of the Fox & Hounds in Denmead, re-furbish it and re-open it as a traditional village pub, selling local ales from local brewers, good quality food (also using local suppliers) and providing a venue for traditional pub sports and pastimes, plus running local events and celebrations. This was achieved and the Fox & Hounds re-opened for business in December 2015.
