Off Worsley Road
Formed in 1916 as a junior team Monton Amateurs AFC soon became an open age club running two teams playing on public pitches. In 1995 the club moved to the present ten acre site in Winton. The site was largely undeveloped and in a run-down condition, but was seen to have potential for improvement. In particular it offered the opportunity to expand and diversify the club's activities to include organised football and coaching for local young people.
Since takeover considerable ground development has taken place including the construction of four new grass pitches, the provision of a grass training area, the provision of a clubhouse, the construction of a new access road and car parking for 100 vehicles, at a total cost of over £250,000.
Further development is planned to commence shortly including the construction of a new clubhouse as a resource for use by the local community for social, physical and recreational activities. This is a major project with a total cost of over £500,000, which is expected to receive major financial support from the Football Foundation, and the current income generating activities are largely devoted to raising the club's contribution to this cost.
The first team plays in the Premier Division of the Manchester League, with two other open age teams also in the Manchester League and one team in the Eccles Sunday Football League. In addition there are fourteen junior teams with ages ranging from under 7 to under 17 and a Sunday soccer school for young people aged 4 to 6.
The soccer school is a major source of contact with the local community and is open throughout the year as a 'drop in' facility for local young people aged 4 to 6 to be introduced to the skills, etiquette and pleasures of football in a stress-free, cheerful atmosphere under the supervision of qualified coaches.
In 2015 the club changed its constitution to that of a Community Benefit Society as AFC Monton (Society No. 7155CBS) with its objective to promote community participation in amateur football and to provide facilities for playing football together with related social facilities.
