This briefing was provided to Members of Parliament in advance of the Westminster Hall Debate on the ‘Contribution of co-operatives and mutuals to the economy and public life’ (14 December 2021).

It offers an account of how co-operatives can be harnessed as tools to extend opportunity, wealth, liberty, pride and aspiration more fairly in the UK, geographically and socially.

The briefing also sets out how the co-operative model could be a powerful tool for funding and implementing the UK’s new Net Zero Strategy.

It also sets out some priority policy recommendations for the Westminster Government.
