Community Shares Unit: Impact report 2024
Resource
Read a summary of the Community Shares Unit activity in 2024. We saw another record year as we worked with 90 different communities to explore community shares.
The Community Shares Unit impact report reveals that in 2024 we:
- Received the most enquiries for support and investment through our Booster Fund
- Saw more than £20m of community shares raised alongside the government’s Community Ownership Fund
- Awarded £636,000 of matched investment to community share offers. In 2024 for each £1 we invested, another £3.17 was raised from community investors.
We have targeted our Booster investment to communities that need it most. A third of our 2024 awards were to IMD 1 (deemed by Government as the most ‘deprived’ areas on a scale from 1-10) and the average IMD of awards was 4.2.
Our Community Shares Standard Mark, the accreditation scheme for national good practice standards, continues to prove popular, with 32 awards made in 2024. We also continued to expand and diversify our pool of practitioners, with 28 new advisors completing our training, with 12 from global majority backgrounds.
Communities receiving support in 2024 through the Booster Fund included:
- Forum Music Studios in Darlington who attracted 225 new community investors injecting £75,000.
- Coalville CAN in Leicestershire raising £258,000 to buy their community hub
- And Chichester Bike Project raising £105,907 to set up a new community cycle shop
