Back the Co-operatives, Mutuals and Friendly Societies Bill 2022

Co-operatives UK is supporting a new Bill boosting co-operative investment, innovation and development.

The Co-operatives, Mutuals and Friendly Societies Bill - introduced by Sir Mark Hendrick MP - contains measures for equity shares and co-operative assets that would enable significant new investment, innovation and development in a wide range of co-operatives.

The crucial Second Reading of the Bill is scheduled for 28 October 2022 and Co-operatives UK is appealing for member support.

Head of Policy, James Wright, said: "From consultations with our members, we know these measures enjoy widespread support within the co-operative sector. Now it's essential that MPs and Ministers hear this directly from co-operatives themselves.

"Private Members' Bills like this one only pass when MPs and Ministers know there's strong support."

The trade body's partners in the Bill Team, Mutuo, have created a website to help co-operatives write to the Chancellor and to their MPs in support of the Bill.

The crucial Second Reading of the Bill is scheduled for 28 October 2022. Co-operatives UK is asking its members and the wider movement to take action in support of the Bill before this date.
