Co-operatives back DEC’s Myanmar Earthquake Appeal
News item
The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) has launched the Myanmar Earthquake Appeal after a powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake has devastated huge areas of Myanmar.
What's happened?
A powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake devastated huge areas of Myanmar on 28 March.
Hundreds of people are still missing. Many more have no access to the safe shelter, clean water, food and medical care they need to survive.
Countless roads and buildings have been destroyed, including schools and water supplies. Network and power lines are down. People are cut off from vital services.
Myanmar was already facing a severe humanitarian crisis with a third of the population in need of humanitarian aid. Now the situation is catastrophic.
How your co-operative can help
DEC charities are already on the ground in affected communities and are working hard to access remote areas. They urgently need funds to scale up their work and reach the most vulnerable.
A number of co-operatives have backed the appeal, either by donating direct to the DEC or are promoting the appeal to their customers, members and colleagues. These include: Co-op Group, Midcounties Co-op, Central Co-op, Radstock Co-operative, Chelmsford Star, East of England Co-op, Scotmid Co-op, Lincolnshire Co-operative and Heart of England Co-op.
- If your co-operative would like to support the appeal, please email [email protected] to request access to the assets or details of how to make a corporate donation
- For individuals who want to donate, either text COOP to 70727 to donate £10* (Visit dec.org.uk for full T&Cs) or donate online.
