Co-op Hackathon – code of conduct

We ask all participants in our events – be it staff, speakers or delegates – to adhere to the following Code of Conduct:  

1. Discrimination based on age, disability, race, nationality, belief, physical appearance, gender, sex or sexual orientation will not be tolerated.  
2. Participants are expected to use language that is respectful and inclusive. Please be kind to others, respect diversity of views, use vocabulary that is accessible to non-experts and avoid language and imagery that can be considered offensive. Please be aware of the privileges you carry, including racial, class and gender privilege.  
3. Participants must respect any requirements made by Co-operatives UK staff or the venue in relation to Health and Safety.  
4. Unless otherwise stated, participants are responsible for their own belongings. Please look after your valuables, especially laptops. Co-operatives UK cannot take responsibility for the security of your items.  
5. Participants have a duty to take reasonable care for their own safety when attending the event. Similarly, never act in a way that puts your own or other participants’ health, safety or security at risk. Please respect other participants’ choices; for example, if a participant chooses to wear a mask or to maintain social distancing, we ask that participants please respect their decision to do so.  
6. If alcohol is permitted or provided during the event, participants are expected to consume it responsibly and only during the time and in the locations permitted.  
7. If a participant witnesses a breach of this Code of Conduct, they should speak to a member of Co-operatives UK staff.  
8. Anyone violating this Code of Conduct will be expected to comply immediately and may be asked to leave the event at the sole discretion of the organisers.
