We're inviting our members to join an online drop-in meeting to discuss proposed changes to the ICA's Statement on the Co-operative Identity. Join us on either Wednesday 29 or Thursday 30 July.

The ICA has been undertaking a review of the Statement on the Co-operative Identity over the last five years. The Co-operative Identity, adopted in 1995, provides the internationally agreed:

  • Definition of a co-operative
  • Co-operative values
  • Seven co-operative principles

The ICA is reviewing the Statement to ensure it still fully reflects the realities and ambitions of today's global co-operative movement.

We have been involved in the review at various stages and now we’re inviting members to feed into our response on the Revised Statement by 31 July. We are compiling a response from Co-operatives UK on behalf of our members.

The ICA has published the revised statement and you can read more about the process on it's dedicated website and explaining the changes from the 1995 Statement.

Share your feedback on the ICA’s revised statement

We're offering two ways to feedback on the revised statement:

1. Join an online meeting

We are holding two online drop-ins:

Wednesday 29 July, 11am-12pm

Hosted by Emma Laycock, Member Services Lead & Head of Advice, Co-operatives UK. Register via Zoom >>

Thursday 30 July, 4-5pm

Hosted by Rose Marley, CEO, Co-operatives UK. Register via Zoom >>

2. Email your feedback

If you can’t make either drop-in but would like to add your feedback, please email [email protected] by 5pm on 30 July.

What happens next?

This third discussion draft represents the next step in a consultation process intended to ensure that any final recommendations are informed by a wide range of co-operative voices. We want to ensure the views of our members and the UK movement are fully included.

The ICA has outlined the consultation below:
