Co‑op Fortnight: Let’s build something better together
News item
During the Covid‑19 pandemic, we’ve seen some inspirational stories of co‑operation in our communities. We want to harness this positive behaviour to change society for the better. That’s why during Co‑op Fortnight (22 June to 5 July 2020), we’re encouraging everyone to #KeepCooperating.
For the last ten years, hundreds of organisations have worked together during Co-op Fortnight to raise awareness of co-ops. From the big co-op clean to acts of mass co-operation, its our chance to shine a spotlight on the values that make co-ops different.
Originally a theme of #JoinACoop was planned for the 2020 campaign, with a focus on member recruitment and engagement, but the theme has been changed to reflect the current crisis.
Wendy Carter, Head of Communications and Marketing explains, “We’ve seen people from all walks of life stepping up during these extraordinary times, with three quarters of a million people volunteering for the NHS – shopping for vulnerable neighbours, delivering equipment and medication and checking in with those most at risk. And of course co-ops are playing their part in many different ways by keeping shelves stocked, providing essential services, supporting local mutual aid groups and much more.”
Co‑ops are businesses built on values. We do business the right way, all the time, not just in times of crisis. You can get involved by highlighting the different ways that co‑ops, and people in your community have worked together, talking about the co-op values and principles and encourage everyone to keep co-operating.
