This is a Brighton & Hove Community Land Trust event.
Join us on Saturday 29 June for a tour of local housing co-operatives in Brighton & Hove, each with its own story. This is a chance to see some of the ways more genuinely affordable and co-operative housing has been created in the city.
Places are FREE but please sign up using eventbrite. Please make sure you book the tour you want to go on - morning or afternoon. Click on the register button above, and you will be given a choice of which tour to book on.
We are working with the Big Lemon bus company who will be driving people between the housing co-ops in a minibus. There will be two tours on the day, one at 9.00am (bus leaves at 9.15am) and one at 1.15pm (bus leaves at 1.30pm). The bus for both tours will leave from Old Steine, bus stop S.
Each tour is approximately four and a half hours long. The morning tour will finish at Two Piers near the town centre. The afternoon tour will drop people back at the Old Steine.
- Tour 1 (morning) will call at Rosa Bridge, Bunker, South Downs Eco, Two Piers
- Tour 2 (afternoon) will call at Bunker, Bug, Out of Town, South Downs Eco.
More information on all the co-ops can be found here. There will be a chance to stop for refreshments in the Two Piers gazebo at the end of the morning tour.
The tour is free, but we require participants to become Brighton & Hove Community Land Trust members (fee £1). Join here: bhclt.org.uk/membership
Unfortunately, most of the properties in the tour are not accessible for wheelchairs. Walking will also be involved on the tour - we wont be able to park right next to all of the houses. There is more accessibility information about each co-op here. Wheelchairs and pushchairs will need to be folded while on the bus. Please let us know if you are bringing a wheelchair or pushchair or if you have any questions or particular accessibility needs.
This event is one of many happening during Co-operatives Fortnight 2019. The tour is jointly supported by Brighton & Hove Community Land Trust, Co-operative Housing in Brighton & Hove (CHIBAH) and Mutual Aid in Sussex (MAIS).
Do you want to set up a housing co-op (or another form of community-led housing)?
Please read this page on our website and get in contact at [email protected] to let us know some information about your group, or if you're interested in joining an existing group. Brighton & Hove Community Land Trust can provide support and advice on how to do this.
