Become a peer mentor

Are you experienced in establishing and managing a co-operative enterprise, and keen to pass on the learning and experience gained? If you’ve been there, done it and learnt from the process, we want to hear from you!

The Hive is recruiting peer mentors - existing, experienced co-ops to help new businesses to get going.

We are looking for mentors across a variety of industry sectors.

What is peer mentoring?

Peer mentors are viewed as a sounding board and business friend. They help to generate problem solving ideas and encourage strategic thinking.

Mentors would:

  • Be viewed as a sounding board and business friend
  • Help to generate problem solving ideas and encourage strategic thinking
  • Offer choices as opposed to directives
  • Empathise and not judge

Importantly, mentors would not be seen as consultants and do not undertake tasks that you would expect from a fee-earning consultant.

Can you cover costs?

We recognise the desire among co-ops to help and support each other, and can allocate a small amount of money to help this process run smoothly. Approved mentors will receive £250 per day for up to 3 days of support (4 days for community energy groups) plus VAT where applicable. Travel expenses of up to £200 per mentee group will also be provided.

How do I apply?

Applications to become a peer mentor have now closed. We will announce details about the how co-operatives can apply for our peer mentoring scheme on 30 April 2016.
