Give us your views on the potential for co-op ISAs
Co-operatives UK is seeking the views of members on new ISA rules that came into force in July 2015 expanding the range of investments eligible for ISAs and Child Trust Funds to include listed bonds issued by co-operative and community benefit societies. While the number of co-ops in a position to issue listed bonds is currently small, and issuing tradable securities has to be done with sensitivity to co-op principles, we do believe that this presents a welcome move to put co-ops on a level playing field with other business forms.
HM Treasury has also opened a consultation on opening these ISAs and Child Trust Funds to co-op debt and equity offered on crowdfunding platforms, which could create opportunities for smaller co-ops to raise capital this way.
Co-operatives UK would like the views of our members, and SME co-ops in particular, on whether they see opening ISAs and Child Trust Funds to co-op debt and equity as a potential opportunity for raising capital.
