Support the UK’s first social care platform co-op

Equal Care Co-op  is setting out to change the way the UK's care industry works, refocusing the power, choice, and control onto the most important people involved: the people receiving the care and the people providing it.

We’ve supported Equal Care Co-op through our Un:Found accelerator programme and now the team have launched a Christmas CrowdFunder to secure the last funding to get the co-op off the ground.

Equal Care Co-op is the UK’s first social care platform co-operative. The team are setting out to change the way the UK's care industry works, refocusing the power, choice, and control onto the most important people involved: the people receiving the care and the people providing it – be they paid or unpaid, a family member or a professional carer.

Launching in December 2018, Equal Care Co-op is set to change the way homecare works. Empowering those who receive and provide the care, as opposed to profit-driven third parties, Equal Care Co-op is the first care platform to be owned by the service users themselves. Initially the service will be offered to workers and customers in Calderdale, West Yorkshire, with the eventual aim of offering a mainland UK-wide service.

Equal Care is not backed by venture capital, which typically looks for profitable and short-term involvement. Having won various charitable grants to get to its current position, Equal Care Co-op is now looking to the public to help reach the next stage of growth and fulfil its long term vision. Find out more about their crowdfunder which closes on 13 December 2019
