The Co-op Fortnight 2019 campaign is launched today (22 Nov) to a packed room of delegates at the annual Practitioners Forum.
Taking place from 24 June to 7 July 2019, the Co-op Fortnight campaign aims to inspire tens of thousands of people up and down the country – co-op members, customers, suppliers, friends, family and communities – to join together in two weeks of mass co-operation to spread the co-op word, sharing the values that make our businesses different.
The campaign will kickstart a chain reaction from co-op to co-op, from the Highlands of Scotland to the Channel Islands – from energy co-op to credit union and every member-owned business in between. During the two week summer campaign, co-ops will carry out an act of co-operation, post a photo or video on social media and nominate another co-op using the hastag #CoopFortnight, who does the same.
"From community clean ups, to collecting donations for a local food bank or opening up your business to educate people about co-ops. What practical ways can your co-op involve people working together in co-operation? Can you set a target for the number of bags of litter, families fed or people you teach? For the first time, co-ops are being asked to pledge to take part by completing a quick online form, with a rough idea of what they plan to do. This will allow Co-operatives UK, which co-ordinates the campaign on behalf of its members, to total up the number of participants and create national and regional press releases featuring the most interesting and inspiring events.
