Co-operative Pitches

What better way to 'reimagine our economy' - to help build a fairer society - than providing support to new and existing co-ops with innovative ideas?

What is the co-operative pitch?

We are asking co-operatives to put forward their new ideas - their innovative solutions - in a bid to win a cash prize and business support. The best ones will be invited to pitch to our 'Dragon's Den' panel at Congress on Saturday 1 July in front of an audience from across the co-operative sector. A cash prize is up for grabs, plus business support through The Hive to help get the great winning idea off the ground. The runner-up will also win the business support package.

What's on offer:

  • Prize money of £2,000 courtesy of sponsors Co-op Insurance for the winner
  • Four days of business support worth an additional £2,000 for the winner and runner-up
  • Potential to attract further support/investment via our Congress audience

What's the idea?

The scope is wide, and we are simply looking to hear the best ideas which we will then shortlist ahead of Congress. Maybe you have a burning idea for a new co-operative – one that will do things a little differently? Perhaps you are a member of an existing co-op and have an innovative solution to an existing problem? Maybe you have a new product or service that needs further development? Or perhaps your new business idea or product/service is already past the development stage and needs an additional push? Last year’s entrants featured a programme for co-operative freelancers; a new co-operative workspace in Luton; an environmentally friendly Nespresso compatible capsule; a saver scheme for schoolchildren; and a capital investment-focused national student housing co-op body. As we said, the scope is wide, so let’s hear your big ideas.

All pitches must be submitted by existing co-operatives, or individuals/groups looking to set up a new co-operative initiative. Read the full Co-op Pitches terms and conditions here.
