Customer-owned retailers, just like Midcounties Co-operative, invest twice as much money as their competitors into local areas. It is just one of the ways in which co-ops do business better.
Concern for the community is one of the co-operative principles on which Midcounties bases all its activities. The co-operative retailer gives something back to its communities in a number of ways, including a focus on health and fitness opportunities and tackling obesity.
Junior football teams from clubs including FC Newlands, Cannock Blues FC, Huntington Harriers and Hednesford Town have all benefited from grants and support.
Stuart Harris, Chairman of FC Newlands, said: "As a club we're focused on helping members to develop as people and leading them away from falling into the wrong crowd and turning to crime.
"We've grown quickly over the past year and this grant (from Midcounties) is absolutely vital in ensuring the boys have everything they need to thrive, on and off the field."
