Lily Howe was the first female editor of the Co-operative News

Mrs Lily Howe became the first female editor of the Co-operative News in 1972.

Mrs Howe had worked in the publications departments of both the Co-operative Wholesale Society and the Co-operative Union prior to becoming editor, and had also been a Co-operative Party organiser in the North West.  Mrs Howe took early retirement in 1984, and went on to become a member of the North West Co-operative Development Council and a trustee of the Plunkett Foundation. Mrs Howe died in 2011.
