ICA Gender Equality Committee

ICA

The Gender Equality Committee (ICA GEC) is a thematic committee of the International Co-operative Alliance (ICA) which promotes equality between women and men in the co-operative movement. It was formerly known as the ICA Global Women's Committee. The Secretariat of the Committee is assured by the ICA Head Office in Geneva.

The Committee has been particularly active in shaping ICA priorities. It proposed an ICA Strategy for Promoting Gender Equality (2000) and an ICA Strategy for Co-operatives Fighting HIV/AIDS (2004), both of which were adopted by the ICA Board. It works with ICA structures at the global, regional and sectoral levels to implement the ICA Gender Strategy and activities that have a gender component.
