Consultation: Electronic communications in the mutuals sector

Mutual societies are under a number of statutory obligations to communicate with their members or the public in the conduct of their business.

The consultation document proposes to amend legislation that will facilitate the use of electronic communications (such as email and internet) by the mutual sector to discharge these statutory obligations and allow mutuals to reduce their administrative costs.

It is important to the ongoing legislative reform process that the sector demonstrates to the Treasury their interest and commitment to reform by responding to consultations. Therefore, Co-operatives UK have prepared a response on behalf of our members which can be downloaded below: you can use our response as a basis for your own if you require, or contact the Treasury using the address below to indicate your support of our response.

If you do send a response to the consultation, please also send a copy to:

Helen Barber,
Secretary and Head of Legal Services,
Co-operatives UK,
Holyoake House,

This will allow us to monitor the response of the sector and ensure that we continue to reflect the views of our members.
