The Co‑operative Debate
Primary tabs
Date:
Saturday, June 26, 2010 - 11:15 to 13:00
The subject matter of our second session on Saturday is set by our members. Not only does the debate provide an opportunity for delegates to get involved debating issues of contemporary significance to the sector, but it allows our members to set the agenda for our work over the following twelve months.
In 2009 the subjects that were debated included action by co-operatives on climate change and a "co-operative fortnight".
Members submitted proposals for debate ranging in subject matter from reform of the banking sector to compensation paid to directors on leaving office. Selecting the subjects that should go forward for debate is not an easy task. The subjects that have been selected for debate reflect our desire to speak to wider world about co-operation - to declare loudly and clearly that there is an alternative.
This year we will debate what membership means in the internet era of loose affiliations, local renewal through community co-operation, and a call for action on the United Nations International Year of Co-operation in 2012.
More information will be posted at a later date.
