As eligible co-ops should know by now, I'm standing for election to the Worker Co-operative Council. Here is my election statement, written in cooperation with other members of software.coop (which is why it's in the third person - seems I'm the only candidate to do that this year):
- MJ is both passionate about and experienced in co-operation. 2012, the UN's year of co-ops, is a great opportunity to spread the co-operative message wider and to build support both between co-ops and with their national body. MJ is working to equip members with the resources they want, under permissive terms of use, to facilitate their business, campaigning and outreach. 'Dog helps Dog' and 'Co-operation in the Age of Google' are helpful starting points to build upon.
- MJ has worked for software.coop since it was formed 9 years ago and served on the Co-operatives SW steering group 2006-2010. Having also experienced work in public and private sectors, MJ fully appreciates the social, democratic and ethical co-operative difference. Your support will help MJ achieve his aims of bringing UK members together and taking the worker cooperative message to a wider audience. Thank you.
The 150-word limit means that is a summary, of course. I'm a big believer in open co-operation, so you can see some of my recent work on this website.
Moreover, you can find about a decade of detail on my personal website, mjr.towers.org.uk and I'm available for any questions voters may have for me: please post them as a comment on this page or on another social network group that we share if you'd like a public answer, or use my comments form if you'd like a reply by email. I feel it's important that our representatives are available to the electorate.
The closing date for receipt of ballot papers is 27th May 2011.

Any Questions
MJ, good to see you're standing. If elected, would you see yourself as a representative democrat, or a recallable delegate?
Representative body
Sion, thanks for taking part. The guidance says that the council is a representative body, so that's how I'm approaching this. You've done this for a few years, so maybe you'll allow me to ask a question in return: is there a recall process that I've overlooked?
