How to reboot a sustainable economy
Submitted by giles.simon on 15 February, 2012 - 14:48

Co-operatives UK was delighted to be a partner in The Co-operative Group's flagship ethical event to showcase co-operative ways to create a sustainable economy.
The co-operative opportunity: how to reboot a sustainable economy took place in Westminster on 15 February, to launch The Co-operative Group’s Ethical Plan for 2012 to 2014, which brings together around 50 bold targets in areas including community, responsible retailing, ethical finance, tackling global poverty and protecting the environment.
A number of high profile speakers delivered short speeches to the many delegates attending.
- Jonathon Porritt, Forum for the Future, will highlight the opportunity of community owned energy
- Noreena Hertz, economist, author and campaigner will explain why we are entering an era of ‘Co-op Capitalism’
- Barbara Stocking, Chief Executive of Oxfam GB, will explore how co-operatives can help feed the world sustainably
- David Sloan Wilson, Biologist and main architect of Multilevel Selection Theory, will show how evidence demonstrates that group selection and co-operation are evolutionary drivers
- Len Wardle, Chair of The Co-operative Group, will launch the latest iteration of radical new Ethical Plan
Noreena Hertz’s speech on Co-op Capitalism has been published by Co-operatives UK, which you can read here: www.uk.coop/coopcapitalism
The event was organised by The Co-operative Group, in partnership with Co-operatives UK and Forum for the Future.
